35th Parallel With a style of music they call MediterrAsian jazz, 35th Parallel takes the listener on a sinuous journey around the globe, blending the sounds of Middle-Eastern oud and Indian tabla with flavors of ambient soundscapes.
Ryan VanOrsdel Anapra began as a two piece acoustic band (Ryan VanOrsdel and Jeff Martin) touring the East and West coast US. After summer 2004 and more than 30 shows Jeff's brother Robert joined with Neil Stuckenschneider. The band then rehearsed for three months looking for a drummer. Finally Reed VanOrsdel (Ryan's younger brother) joined as the drummer and completed the band. Tour of summer 05 should be great since the bands shows in the DC metro area have been doing well and gaining popularity. The band also recently made plans to play 10 shows in Chihuahua City Mexico in connection with a Mexican concert promoter (Janeth Vela, in Chihuahua City) and a string quartet composed of professors at University of Chihuahua. The band now consists of Ryan VanOrsdel (Vox and instruments), Jeff Martin (FX), Reed VanOrsdel (Drums), Robert Martin (Guitar), Neil Stuckinschneider (bass). Their musical influences range from STP, Opeth, Incubus, Silverchair, Tool, Jethro Tull, and Jack Johnson.

Our influences are heavy if not heavier then our own selves but we try to find a 'happy medium' between the hard and soft! Give the music a listen and you make the judgment. One thing is for sure, with each new song will be more experimentation!!

I am a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and keyboardist. I was raised in Holland, Michigan and have been involved in music most of my life. This was my first attempt at producing a finished product. All of the songs are my own and some fine musicians helped give it the feel I was looking for.In 1994 I became involved in a documentary project involving The Abbey Road Studios in London. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more of the history and tell the story of the studios where so many legendary artists had recorded, especially The Beatles, since they were a big influence in my writing and structure. James Taylor, Eric Clapton, early Elton John, and Billy Joel were equally influential to me. When The Abbey Road Documentary was completed, I began production on my own CD.
